In a bid to improve connectivity for public safety services, the government has announced plans to install aerial fiber optic cables in several cities across the country.
The move comes as part of a wider effort to enhance emergency response times and increase communication capabilities for police, fire, and other emergency services. The new cables will provide a dedicated high-speed network exclusively for public safety use, allowing first responders to quickly and effectively communicate with each other during emergencies.
"We are committed to providing the best possible service to our communities, and this investment in public safety infrastructure will help us do just that," said the Minister of Interior. "A reliable and secure network is essential for effective emergency response, and this project will ensure that our first responders have access to the latest technology and tools they need to keep our communities safe."
The aerial fiber optic cables will be installed along existing utility poles, reducing the need for additional infrastructure. This approach is expected to significantly decrease the cost of the project while also minimizing disruption to the community.
The project is set to begin in the coming months, with the first cities to benefit from the new network expected to be announced soon. The government is also exploring partnerships with private companies to help fund and implement the project.
"This is an exciting development for public safety services and the communities they serve," said a spokesperson for the project. "We look forward to working with our partners to bring this vital infrastructure to cities across the country, improving response times and ultimately helping to save lives."
