As we all know, we use optical fiber as a transmission medium for long-distance data transmission, because it has the characteristics of reliable performance, high quality, fast speed, low line loss, and long transmission distance. Because it is a long-distance transmission, people generally require a safe service life of more than 20 years for optical cables on land. The submarine optical cable system has higher requirements, with a safe service period of more than 25 years. Therefore, how to use the optical cable correctly and how to extend the life of the optical cable in the wiring of the optical cable are issues of great concern to the construction workers. Let's talk about how to extend the service life of the optical cable from the perspective of the structure of the optical cable. There are two ways to increase the service life of fiber optic cables:
Method 1: Increase the static fatigue parameter n of the optical fiber to increase the service life of the optical fiber. Therefore, when people manufacture optical fibers, they try to isolate the quartz fiber itself from the atmospheric environment so that it will not be affected by the atmospheric environment, and change the n value from the environmental material parameters to the parameters of the optical fiber material itself as much as possible. The value of n becomes very large, resulting in the "hermetic coating technology" on the surface of the fiber.
Method 2. When the fatigue parameter n is constant, the life ts of the fiber is only related to the stress σ it bears. Therefore, reducing the stress suffered by the fiber is a way to improve the service life of the fiber. When people manufacture optical fibers, a compressive stress is formed on the surface of the optical fiber to resist the tensile stress it bears, so that the tensile stress can be reduced to as small as possible, thus the compressive stress cladding technology is produced to manufacture optical fibers.
